These upcoming new tablet PCs claim to cater to the demanding patrons in different ways; below you will find the known features of each.
BlackBerry PlayBook
BlackBerry maker RIM enters the Tablet Market with its BlackBerry PlayBook and will be available in 3G & 4G in the US by early 2011. Below are a few features we’ve seen…
- The Playbook has a 7” screen, 1 GB RAM and 1GHz dual core processor
- Running on the QNX RealTime Operating System software, the OS is called BlackBerry Tablet OS. RIM’s founder, Dan Dodge, opines that “QNX is going to enable things that you have never seen before”
- For video conferencing, the tablet has a 3 megapixel front-facing camera and a 5 megapixel rear lens equipping users with a decent camera on the go.
- The PlayBook is also equipped with Flash 10.1 and Adobe AIR applications which make it stand apart from it competitor, the iPad.
- Prices have not yet been set but CEO Mike Lazaridis has proclaimed the PlayBook to be the “first professional tablet” and is sure to impress users around the world.
Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid Tablet PC
Called the ‘IdeaPad’, the Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid tablet is two PCs in one but has been delayed to sometime in 2011 due to a list minute decision by Lenovo to switch the Operating System from Linux to Android; no official launch date has been given but some say to expect the Lenovo U1 sometime in Q1 of 2011.
- The screen is detachable and has its own processor making it fully functional. In the words of Liu Jun, senior VP at Lenovo Idea Product Group, the hybrid will “fuse the functionality of a notebook with the tablet’s rich mobile Internet experience”.
- The tablet boasts of supporting five hours of 3G web browsing and 60 hours of 3G standby
- Integrated video camera and two stereo speakers with an echo cancellation enabled microphone
Samsung Galaxy Tab Tablet PC
The tablet follows the launch of the Samsung GALAXY Tab smartphone, and claims to offer a ‘galaxy of opportunities’. Rumours say that the product will first be launched in the Koreas; the Galaxy Tab looks to impress.
- Available in three sizes, 7-inch, 8-inch and 10-inch screens the tablet would run on Google’s Android 2.2 Operating System
- The tablet includes two cameras, one in the front and one in the rear for video-conferencing
- It is enabled for making calls and Samsung calls it “a perfect speakerphone on the desk, or a mobile phone on the move via Bluetooth headset”
- The Galaxy has its own self-built e-mail, messaging and calendar applications along with an eBook reader
HP Hurricane Tablet PC
The Web-OS based tablet from Hewlett-Packard is rumoured to be a union of hardware from the laid-to-rest HP Slate and the OS from Palm, which HP recently acquired, prepare yourself for the HP Hurricane tablet PC.
- HP in a statement said that “the combination of HP’s global scale and financial strength with Palm’s unparalleled Web-OS platform will enhance HP’s ability to participate more aggressively in the fast-growing, highly profitable Smartphone and connected mobile device markets”
- The hurricane will be equipped with Adobe Flash & duel cameras making the tablet device a bit bulky but having two cameras MUST be a requirement now-a-days (unlike the Apple iPad)
Aigo N700
Aigo is the self christened No.1 Chinese consuming electronic brand and will soon release the new tablet pc Aigo N700.
- The Android Tablet, N700, has a 7-inch screen with a 1GHz ARM Cortex processor
- Powered by 512MB of DDR2 memory and capacity available in 4/16/32GB slots, the tablet looks impressive
- Weighing 465gms the device boasts of a camera, WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G
- With Android 2.1 as the Operating System, the Aigo N700 supports Flash 10.1, MS Office and Push email
While there are no details on the launch or the pricing, only time will tell if this is an iPad killer; going by the specifications it is definitely a strong competitor
